Plot

In the quiet suburb of Madison, New Jersey, we meet the remarkable Kincaid children: Claudia, a pre-teen with whimsical dreams, Jamie, a teenager with a knack for gambling, and Kevin, their infant brother. Claudia, particularly dissatisfied with her pedestrian life, yearns for an existence as enchanting as Lady Guinevere's, much to her father's bemusement. One day, Claudia discovers an unclaimed train pass in the trash, fueling her desire for a grand adventure. She recruits Jamie, more for his hoarded $24.40 than his companionship, to embark on an audacious journey with her. However, Claudia keeps her meticulously crafted plan a secret until the moment of execution. The siblings, armed with nothing but their wits, the train pass, and Jamie's hard-earned money, escape to New York City. Their destination? The resplendent Metropolitan Museum of Art. Secretly setting up residence within the museum's hallowed halls, Claudia and Jamie immerse themselves in the rich narratives and diverse worlds that each exhibit unfolds. Their days, filled with the thrill of dodging security and procuring essentials, take a dramatic turn when Claudia stumbles upon an enigmatic angel sculpture tucked away in a workroom. The intriguing tale of the sculpture, sold for a mere trifle to the museum by the reclusive Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and rumored to be a lost masterpiece of Michelangelo, captivates Claudia. Haunted by the mystery of the angel, Claudia, with a reluctant Jamie in tow, decides to uncover the truth. Believing that the elusive Mrs. Frankweiler holds the key to validating her daring escape, Claudia is determined to unravel the secrets ensnared within the mixed-up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. The adventure that unfolds is as mesmerizing as the lives they had yearned to live.
