Plot

In the heart of the quaint and bustling town, Alec and Zooey Morrison (Ioan Gruffudd and Toni Collette) are a loving couple bound by shared dreams and a shared sorrow. Alec, a bookstore owner and occasional children's book writer, also shoulders the responsibility of Morrison's, a family toy company on the brink of financial ruin. Zooey, on the other hand, is a woman yearning to fill the void left by a devastating accident two years prior, an incident that has left them unable to conceive and their relationship strained. Their once vibrant love story, which started in high school, has become overshadowed by the relentless pressures of keeping their business afloat and the heartache of their unfulfilled desire for a child. In a bid to rekindle the flame that once characterized their bond, and perhaps fill the silence of their empty home, they consider fostering a child, a decision instigated by a pamphlet from Lange's Foster Home. Their world takes a turn when Eli (Maurice Cole), a seven-year-old boy from Lange's, mysteriously appears on their doorstep. Clad in a suit and possessing wisdom beyond his years, he claims to have been sent by the temporarily incapacitated Mrs. Lange as their foster son. Despite their initial skepticism, the Morrisons are compelled to take Eli in. The boy, as comfortable in the world of childlike wonder as he is in the realm of adult complexity, soon becomes an integral part of their lives. His insightful advice and heartwarming presence act as a catalyst, helping to mend the growing fissures in their marriage. Simultaneously, they encounter Mr. Potts (Richard E. Grant), a seemingly homeless man residing in Chelsea Gardens across their home. His uncanny knowledge about their lives, including their painful past, hints at a mysterious connection. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes evident that the arrival of Eli and Mr. Potts is no mere coincidence. These two enigmatic characters may hold the key to the Morrisons' redemption, helping them navigate their personal and professional struggles and ultimately, guiding them back to the love they thought they had lost. Yet, as the couple rebuild their lives, they begin to realize that things may not be as straightforward as they appear.
