Plot

In a parallel reality, the Earth is cloaked by an ominous cloud of cosmic radiation, turning the dead into insatiable zombies craving for human flesh, reminiscent of a dystopian 1950s. A corporation named Zomcon emerges as the savior, developing a unique collar that domesticates these zombies, transforming them into obedient, eternally productive societal members. The quaint town of Willard, under Zomcon's vigilance, is home to the Robinsons - father Bill (Dylan Baker), mother Helen (Carrie-Anne Moss), and their lonely son Timmy (Kesun Loder). The Robinsons, unlike their neighbors, live without a domestic zombie, largely due to Bill's childhood trauma of having to eliminate his own zombified father. Yet, the arrival of Zomcon's new head of security, the zealous Jonathan Bottoms (Henry Czerny), pressures Helen into acquiring a zombie, much to Bill's dismay and Timmy's initial apprehension. Surprisingly, the Robinson's new zombie, who Timmy affectionately names Fido (Sir Billy Connolly), becomes more than just a domestic aid. Timmy, often the target of bullies and devoid of friends, finds companionship in Fido, treating him less like a rotting corpse and more like a loyal pet dog. Even Helen finds comfort in Fido's presence, feeling increasingly neglected by Bill, who is preoccupied with his fascination with funerals and fear of human affection. The harmony, however, is disrupted when Fido, through an unfortunate series of events, is accused of causing several deaths, leading to a surge of free-roaming zombies unbeknownst to Zomcon. Despite the chaos, Timmy bravely stands by Fido, willing to go to any lengths to keep his peculiar friend a part of the family. Throughout it all, Fido, reciprocating the kindness shown by Timmy and Helen, might just prove that not all zombies are monstrous killing machines, even without their domestication collar. Fido (2006) is a heart-wrenching tale of friendship and acceptance, a unique blend of a boy-and-his-dog narrative for the grown-ups, set against a backdrop of a zombie-infested world. This film promises to tug at your heartstrings, challenging our perceptions of monsters and heroes.
