Fermat's Room (2007)

In the enigmatic thriller Fermat's Room, four brilliant mathematicians are drawn into a deadly game of minds and motives. Each, having mastered a numerical puzzle, receives an intriguing invitation from an unknown host named Fermat. The invitation is laced with the promise of solving an unprecedented enigma and bears an alias for each invitee - Hilbert, Pascal, Galois, and Oliva. Their curiosity piqued, they journey to a secluded barn on a remote island, a place shrouded in isolation and mystery. Upon their arrival, they are welcomed into a surprisingly cozy room within the barn. Fermat, their elusive host, joins them, and they share a meal, their discussions filled with the anticipation of the enigma to come. Their camaraderie is short-lived when an urgent call from the hospital, regarding Fermat's comatose daughter, forces him to leave abruptly, promising to return within an hour. The quartet’s intrigue soon spirals into terror. The room locks after Fermat's departure, holding them captive. The phone rings, pinning their attention to a chilling mathematical riddle and giving them only a minute to solve it. The stakes rise exponentially when they realize the room's walls, powered by four menacing Poseidon hydraulic presses, close in on them with each failed attempt. The once-comfortable room morphs into a mechanical beast, ready to crush them unless they can unravel the connection between them and their unseen tormentor. As they scramble to solve the riddles and halt the room's deadly advance, they must also unravel the enigma of Fermat himself. Why has he gathered them? What are his motives? And most importantly, can they uncover the truth in time to escape their shrinking prison? Each tick of the clock and each unanswered question brings them closer to a deadly fate, pushing them into a race against time in the labyrinth of Fermat's Room.
