Plot

In the politically charged atmosphere of 1980s Czechoslovakia, the story unfolds around the young, talented sprinter, Anna, portrayed by Judit Bárdos. Handpicked for the national team, Anna embarks on an intense training regimen, with her eyes set firmly on the prestigious Olympic Games. As part of her rigorous preparation, she unwittingly becomes ensnared in a clandestine "medical programme," where she is administered anabolic steroids to enhance her performance. As her performance levels surge, the hidden reality of the drugs she's been given causes her to collapse during training, revealing the unsavory truth. Defiant and undeterred, Anna resolves to continue her training devoid of the performance-enhancing steroids. Her mother, played by Anna Geislerova, is fraught with worry, fearing her daughter won't be able to compete with the steroid-fuelled athletes. She views the Olympics as the sole beacon of hope for her daughter's escape from the confines of the Iron Curtain. Anna's determination is tested when she finishes last in an indoor race. Faced with this setback, her mother divulges Anna's decision to her coach, played by Roman Luknar. In response, they conspire to reintroduce the steroids into Anna's regime covertly, masking it as nothing more than harmless vitamin supplements. This decision sets the stage for a tale of ambition, deception, and the relentless pursuit of glory, all set against the backdrop of an era defined by its political tension.
