Everybody Leaves (2015)

In the heart of the 1980s, amidst one of Cuba's most devastating economic crises, unfolds the story of "Everybody Leaves," a film adaptation of Wendy Guerra's powerful autobiographical novel. The narrative centers on Nieve, a vibrant eight-year-old Cuban girl caught in the tumultuous custody battle waged by her parents. Her mother, Eva, is a passionate artist and a staunch believer in uncensored revolution, who finds new love in Dan, a Swedish nuclear-plant worker. Opposing her is Nieve's father, Manuel, a dedicated playwright penning his rebellious plays in the country's most isolated corners, using his art as a sacrifice on the altar of freedom. "Everybody Leaves" is a compelling celebration of liberty and a stark confrontation with authority, all seen through the innocent eyes of a young girl, beautifully capturing the essence of Cuban life in a time of crisis.
