In the vibrant tapestry of 1960s and 70s Mukkam, Kerala, we find the poignant tale of star-crossed lovers, Moideen and Kanchana Mala. Moideen, a respected member of a prominent Muslim family, and Kanchana Mala, the daughter of a Hindu Thiyya noble, fall deeply in love, challenging the societal norms of their time. The taboo nature of interfaith marriages forces them to retreat, their families standing as unwavering obstacles to their love.
Moideen finds solace in socio-political activism, while Kanchana Mala endures 22 long years of isolation under her family's strict supervision. Their love, however, remains undeterred; they communicate through hidden letters and a secret language of their own, a testament to their enduring bond. A cruel twist of fate leads to Kanchana Mala's discovery, resulting in a brutal punishment at the hands of her conservative relatives.
In a bid for freedom and a life together, they plan an escape to America. However, as Moideen returns with their passports, destiny deals a harsh blow, and he tragically drowns in a boat accident on the river Iruvazhinjippuzha. Shattered, Kanchana Mala contemplates ending her life but is saved by Moideen's mother, who brings her into Moideen's home.
The film concludes with the heartbreaking revelation that Kanchana Mala continues to live in Moideen's house, surviving her lover, and bearing the quiet sorrow of being Moideen's unmarried widow. This tale is a haunting testament to a love that transcended societal norms but was ultimately felled by fate.
