Endangered Species (1982)

“What you don't know can kill you. This is a bizarre mystery story... direct from today's headlines. Someone is trying to cover up what ranchers and journalists know is true. This is not science fiction. The facts are documented. The danger is real.”

Plot

In the suspense-filled universe of "Endangered Species", we meet Reuben Castle, a former New York police lieutenant and recovering alcoholic, wonderfully portrayed by Urich. Castle, along with his spirited daughter, finds himself entangled in a web of enigma in a quaint Colorado town. Initially, he remains aloof from the town's haunting mysteries: a series of baffling cattle mutilations and the eerie whispers of black helicopters. However, Castle's detachment shatters with the unsettling death of his friend Joe Hiatt, the local paper's editor who had been fearlessly scrutinizing these strange occurrences, much to the displeasure of the town's influential cattle baron, Ben Morgan. Driven by a mix of loyalty, curiosity, and a yearning for his former life, Castle finds himself pulled into the vortex of the investigation. As he steps into the labyrinth of mystery, Castle finds an unexpected ally and love interest in the town's captivating female sheriff. Together, they navigate through the maze of fear and resistance from the town's apprehensive locals, in a bid to unfurl the truth. Struggling to hold on to his sobriety, Castle plunges headfirst into danger, rekindling his dormant instincts and sparking a thrilling romance, all while trying to solve the enigma that has the town in its grip. This thrilling narrative is a taut blend of mystery, romance, and danger, sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
