Plot

In the heartrending narrative of 'Ekaj,' the raw realities of life collide with a subtle sense of humor, enveloping viewers in a journey of survival in the unforgiving realm of New York City. The film spotlights the life of a naive runaway teenager, Ekaj (Jake Mestre), who finds himself in an unanticipated odyssey of self-discovery and emotional turbulence. Ekaj's path intertwines with Mecca (Badd Idea), a cynical artist turned hustler, whose life is as complex as his personality. Mecca, a character who embodies humor in its rawest form, is not without his own demons. He's an AIDS-affected, opportunistic thief who manages to maintain a semblance of sanity amidst constant inebriation. His struggle with the disease becomes more apparent as the film unfolds, his tattoos and deteriorating health serving as grim reminders. Their relationship evolves into a profound bond of affection and mutual support, with Ekaj finding a haven in Mecca's care. As Mecca's health wanes, Ekaj's resilience blossoms, unraveling an unexpected transformation in the young runaway. Parallel to this, we explore Ekaj's tumultuous love for Johnny (Scooter LaForge), a painter who reciprocates Ekaj's devotion with indifference and cruelty. Despite the relentless heartbreak, Ekaj clings onto this toxic love, his obsession driving him to the brink of despair. With no fixed abode, Ekaj oscillates between Mecca's cousin's place, Johnny's apartment, and occasionally, hotel rooms funded by the generosity of strangers. 'Ekaj' is a poignant tale of love and survival, baring the harsh truth of life on the streets, and the unlikely friendships that blossom amidst adversity.
