"Doomsday Book" is an evocative triptych of sci-fi tales that intertwine the mundane and the extraordinary in a dance of human folly and technological transcendence. In the first act, "A Brave New World," we delve into the life of Yoon Seok-woo, a diligent research scientist left alone to tend to his family's apartment while his loved ones travel. An innocuous task of discarding a rotten apple in the recycling system sets off an unsettling chain of events. The discarded fruit, transformed into animal feed, leads to a contamination crisis that transforms the bustling city of Seoul into a chilling landscape populated by the undead. "The Heavenly Creature," the second segment, transports us to the serene corridors of a monastery. Here, a robot named In-Myung, working in tranquil solitude, experiences a profound spiritual awakening, declaring itself a Buddhist who has achieved enlightenment. Technician Park Do-wan, called in to resolve this anomaly, finds himself unable to mend the enlightened machine. The company's president, perceiving this spiritual phenomenon as a threat, resolves to deactivate the robot, setting the stage for a conflict that blurs the lines between man and machine. In the final chapter, "Happy Birthday," a seemingly innocent act by a young girl spirals into a cosmic catastrophe. To replace a damaged 8 ball and keep her secret safe from her billiard-loving father, she places an order through a mysterious website. Little does she know, her actions inadvertently summon an asteroid hurtling towards Earth, forcing humanity into underground shelters in a desperate bid for survival. "Doomsday Book" is a stimulating exploration of humanity's relationship with technology, a labyrinthine journey interspersed with zombies, enlightened robots, and impending doomsday, all wrapped in an intriguing narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
