In the heart of middle-class America, Richard and Barbara Harmon find their 17-year-long marriage hitting an unforgiving rocky terrain. Both hailing from working-class backgrounds, they have two teenage children and a seemingly unbridgeable chasm of misunderstandings between them. Richard, now a business success after years of relentless striving, is perplexed by Barbara's discontent. He views himself as the hardworking provider, yet Barbara yearns for emotional connection, feeling abandoned in the shadow of Richard's professional triumphs. Their marital drought extends to their bedroom, challenging their fidelity - a territory previously unexplored. As they grapple with advice from well-meaning friends, they inadvertently stoke the embers of divorce, an idea that had been a stranger to their union until now.
