Plot

"Disengagement" is a complex tale of personal and political turmoil, unraveling in two contrasting worlds. The year is 2005, and within the historical walls of Avignon, a death shrouds the air. The deceased man's home becomes a solemn sanctuary, his lifeless body a silent testament to the past, attended by a melancholic soprano and his daughter, Ana. Ana, caught in the throes of her own existential crisis, prepares to sever ties with her husband. The arrival of Uli, her adopted brother and an Israeli police officer, stirs a playful, almost reckless side of her. She dares to tamper with their father's will, an audacious act swiftly silenced by the family attorney who reveals the genuine document. The contents of the will unsettle Ana, catapulting her and Uli onto a journey to Israel, into the heart of a settlement facing obliteration in the wake of the Gaza disengagement. This riveting tale transcends into a political drama, unfolding against the backdrop of Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Gaza strip. Ana, a French woman of Israeli descent, is drawn deeper into the labyrinth of her past as she ventures into the Gaza Strip in a desperate search for her long-lost daughter. "Disengagement" is a thought-provoking exploration of the wellsprings of emotion, the power of familial ties, and the unspoken intensity of an embrace, all set amidst the whirlwind of a nation's struggle for identity.
