Set in the war-scarred Spain of 1944, the film Dirty Wolves spins a tale of two sisters, Manuela and Candela, who reside in a secluded town in the heart of Galicia. The sisters, as diverse in character as they are connected by blood, grapple with the harsh realities of their time.
Manuela, a peaceful spirit, yearns for tranquility as she nurses her ailing daughter Alba. She dreams of a life untouched by the ravages of war and political strife. Candela, on the other hand, is a fiery spirit who channels her energy into stealing bits of wolfram, a valuable mineral utilized in WWII weaponry, from the mine where she labors. She sells these stolen pieces in the black market, driven by the desperate need for money.
Their lives take an intriguing turn when Candela aligns herself with Bryan, a covert British Intelligence agent residing in their town. Bryan's mission is to halt the mine's operations, which under Franco's orders, is supplying wolfram to the Nazis, bolstering their arsenal. Despite her initial reluctance, Manuela joins forces with Candela to rope in Miguel Peña, a former guerrilla. Together, they plot to mobilize the mine workers, all prisoners from the Civil War, to dig a secret tunnel and pilfer the wolfram.
As the plot thickens, Candela's daring deeds escalate to aiding Jewish fugitives, hoping to secure their safe passage to Portugal. This risky endeavor is partly fueled by her desire to win the affections of Edgar, a young Englishman. Meanwhile, Manuela finds herself in a complicated love triangle as Franz, the mine's German overseer, takes an interest in her, sparking Miguel's jealousy.
