Plot

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of 1936 Andalusia, a quaint and remote southern Spanish town, "The Endless Trench" follows the harrowing tale of Higinio, a town councilor and tailor, freshly wed to Rosa. With the Spanish Civil War casting a lethal shadow, Higinio's world is upended as he is forced into hiding within the confines of his own home. However, the vengeful neighbor Gonzalo, hell-bent on avenging his brother's death, ensnares Higinio, delivering him into the hands of Franco's soldiers. Fortune favors Higinio in the form of a serendipitous escape during a prison transfer, leading him back to his home, his sanctuary turned prison. Gonzalo's intermittent visits to Rosa, coupled with the mounting bounty for capturing Higinio and his fellow insurgents, keep the danger ever-present. The death of Higinio's father brings an unexpected twist, moving him and Rosa into a new hideaway and a sewing shop, the threads of their life further entwining with peril. Time, however, brings more than just fear. A brutal encounter with young Civil Guard Rodrigo results in an unexpected pregnancy. Rosa, faced with a dilemma of paternity, chooses to retreat into her sister's care for a few months. During this time, Higinio befriends two unusual intruders, the local postman and his lover, forming a pact of shared secrets. As World War II concludes without the longed-for defeat of Franco's regime, Higinio's hopes fade, leaving him trapped in a cage of paranoia. The house morphs into a fortress of fear, as Rosa's son Jaime grows under the guise of a nephew, the truth of his lineage shrouded by the grim cloak of survival. The tumultuous journey reaches its boiling point in 1963 as Jaime, now a young man weary of the life of terror, introduces a hunted friend to his father, revealing a network of hidden lives. Simultaneously, the specter of revenge continues to haunt them as Gonzalo relentlessly hunts Higinio. Yet, a ray of hope pierces through the thick fog of despair as Higinio hears a life-altering radio broadcast in 1969. Thus, "The Endless Trench" weaves a rich tapestry of suspense, resilience, and the haunting reality of survival, leaving viewers on the edge of their seat.
