Plot

Libby Saul, a twenty-two-year-old woman, leads a secluded life on an isolated, dilapidated farm on the central California coast. She is trapped in a world of silence, serving as the only communication bridge between her bitter parents who can't bear to interact with each other. Ellie, her mother, confines herself to the bed, convinced she's perpetually ill, while her stern father, Cliff, exhibits a brutal mix of emotional and physical abuse. This harsh reality has shaped Libby into an introverted soul, her insecurity pouring out through a stutter. Her only sanctuary is the expansive, surrounding woods, her secret haven being an abandoned cabin she's converted into her emotional home. But the tranquility of their isolation is threatened when the government purchases part of their land for a new highway. The construction crew, comprising of prison inmate labor, is now a constant presence, stirring curiosity in Libby, who watches them covertly from the hills above. In the midst of the abrupt change, her parents attempt to set her up with the compassionate war veteran and construction foreman, Jeff Barker, who reciprocates the interest. However, it's Barry Burnette, a volatile and misunderstood convict, who captures Libby's attention. The parallels of their confined lives draw them closer, sparking an inexplicable attraction. When fate presents an opportunity for Barry to escape, their paths intertwine further. Libby learns about Barry's impulsive behavior that led to his imprisonment, and together they attempt to carve out a future, hidden from the world. Yet, with relentless Sheriff Akers hot on their trail, their time is running out. Will their forbidden love survive, or will they succumb to the pressures of their circumstances? "Deep Valley" is an exploration of love and freedom amidst a world of isolation and confinement.
