Plot

In the quiet backdrop of a new town, genius roboticist Paul Conway and his mother Jeannie arrive, welcomed by Dr. Johanson for Paul to join the local university. Alongside them is Paul's brainchild, the intelligent robot BB. As they settle in, Paul befriends Tom Toomey, the local paperboy, and becomes smitten with his beautiful but tormented next-door neighbor, Samantha Pringle. Samantha, a victim of her father Harry Pringle's alcohol-fueled abuse, forms an unlikely bond with Paul and their mutual friend Tom. Their lives take an unexpected turn during a game of basketball when their ball lands in the yard of their cantankerous neighbor, Elvira Parker. The paranoid Elvira, refusing to return the ball, becomes a symbol of their teenage rebellion. On a daredevil Halloween night, Paul and Tom decide to retrieve their ball, using BB to unlock Elvira's gate. This plan backfires horrendously when the alarmed Elvira decimates BB with her shotgun. Tragedy strikes further when Harry, in an abusive rage, critically injures Samantha, leaving her brain-dead and tethered to life support. In a desperate bid to save the girl he loves, Paul, driven by love and his extraordinary knowledge of robotics, hatches a daring plan. He convinces Tom to help him rescue Samantha from the hospital, where he proceeds to implant BB's salvaged chip into her brain. In this thrilling blend of science-fiction and horror, the resurrection of Samantha sparks a series of chilling events as she becomes something neither completely human nor entirely robotic. With Samantha's transformation into a potentially deadly entity, the question arises - how far can love push the boundaries of life and death?
