Deadly Advice (1994)

In the heart of a small British town, the Greenwood household stands under the ruthless rule of matriarch Iris (Brenda Fricker). Her iron-fist dominance has cast a shadow over her daughters, Jodie (Jane Horrocks) and Beth (Imelda Staunton), leaving them with the bleak prospect of becoming old, unwed spinsters. Jodie harbours a forbidden affection for the town's much older doctor, a romance that is met with Iris's fierce disapproval. Meanwhile, Beth stumbles upon an unlikely connection with a male stripper in Bristol, but the omnipresence of their oppressive mother stifles any hope for a future. The sisters yearn for liberation, yet their attempts to escape Iris's clutches seem futile until an otherworldly intervention sparks a shocking plan. Jodie starts receiving spectral advice from the ghost of H.R. Armstrong (Edward Woodward), a notorious figure who had once etched the town's name into history with his dark deeds. Alongside the apparitions of four other infamous British killers, Armstrong guides Jodie down a lethal path. Their chilling counsel fuels Jodie's resolve to eradicate the maternal tyrant hindering her happiness, even if it means resorting to murder. As the plot thickens, potential viewers are left wondering who else could fall victim to Jodie's desperate pursuit of freedom.
