Plot

Amid the relentless throes of World War I, the alluring British music hall sensation, Lili Smith, played by Dame Julie Andrews, graces the hearts of British and French soldiers with her rousing, patriotic melodies. However, beneath the veneer of her public persona, Lili, half-German by birth and Smith by profession, surreptitiously operates as a German undercover agent, her real name being Schmidt. Guided by her Swiss uncle and clandestine lover, Colonel Kurt Von Ruger (Jeremy Kemp), Lili employs her irresistible charm to pry strategic information from the unsuspecting high-ranking officers and diplomats she romantically ensnares. Tasked with a mission of paramount importance by Kurt, Lili's loyalty finds itself under the skeptical gaze of General Kessler (Carl Duering), who is wary of her dual heritage. The objective: to infiltrate the inner circle of the charismatic and cavalier American pilot, Major William Larrabee (Rock Hudson), and unearth the Allied air defense plans, a critical front in the ongoing war. Lili's bewitching allure makes quick work of Larrabee's defenses, but her mission teeters on the brink of exposure when French agents suspect Larrabee of colluding with a mysterious female German operative. As Lili's professional and personal lives intertwine in a dangerous dance, she stumbles upon a covert operation codenamed "Crepe Suzette," shared in confidence by one of Larrabee's fellow pilots, T.C. Carstairs (Lance Percival). This revelation proves to be a turning point, not only threatening Lili's precarious position as a spy, but also testing the resilience of her blossoming relationship with Larrabee. As she grapples with the realization of her growing affections for the American pilot, her "uncle" Kurt too discerns her emotional conflict. Plunged into a vortex of love, loyalty, and espionage, Lili is forced to confront her true fate, even as the specter of "Suzette" looms ominously over both her and Larrabee's lives.
