Darkdrive (1997)

In a not-so-distant, eerily plausible future, society's most devious criminals find themselves banished to an unorthodox prison: a chillingly immersive virtual reality world constructed by the enigmatic corporation, Zircon, nestled in the heart of Seattle. Our protagonist, the system's gifted yet tormented architect, Steven Falcon, uncovers a looming threat: the peril of system overload and the risk of cunning hackers infiltrating the matrix, with sinister intentions to pilfer files, aiding the captives in their virtual escape. As Falcon contemplates severing ties with the sinister operation, he finds himself squarely in the crosshairs of his ruthless employers. His only means of survival lies within the very creation he threatens to abandon: the Matrix-esque virtual reality realm, where he must navigate its digital labyrinths to unearth the root of the impending system catastrophe.
