In the grimy heart of New York City, the notorious cop-killer, Martin Rome, finds himself ensnared in the jaws of justice, critically wounded and confined to a hospital prison ward. Despite the looming specter of death, Rome stubbornly resists the entreaties of the sly lawyer, W.A. Niles.
