Plot

In the pulsating heart of New York City, Eugene Martone, affectionately known as the "Lightning Boy", is a classical guitar prodigy at Julliard with an unusual obsession — the blues. His heart echoes with the raw, soulful strains of a music genre rooted in pain and struggle, and his quest: the elusive thirtieth song of blues legend Robert Johnson. In the muted, forgotten corners of an old folks' home, Eugene encounters Willie Brown, the "Blind Dog," a storied Blues musician who is rumored to possess the lost song. Convinced that Willie is the key to his quest, Eugene orchestrates a daring escape from the home, setting them on a journey to the birthplace of the blues— the Mississippi Delta. Their adventure is as much a voyage of self-discovery as it is a geographic journey. Strapped for cash, they hitchhike their way through the sprawling American landscape, their path intersecting with Frances, a runaway with dreams of dancing under the Los Angeles spotlight. As they traverse the country, they encounter bizarre situations and offbeat adventures, their stories intertwining in a tapestry of dreams, music, and unfulfilled desires. Eugene, unbeknownst to him, is not only on the path to find the lost song, but also to uncover Willie's dark secret—a devilish pact that the old bluesman now wishes to annul. The journey culminates in a riveting guitar duel between Eugene and the formidable Jack Butler, a climax that tests the true mettle of the "Lightning Boy" and the depth of his passion for the blues. Crossroads (1986) is a compelling odyssey through the world of blues, a testament to the power of music, and a celebration of the lengths one will go to follow their dreams.
