In the harsh realities of the Rock, Mitsy's life is a constant struggle. Abandoned by her mother, a woman more inclined towards the bottle and the sex trade than motherhood, Mitsy is left in the care of her unpredictable grandmother, Bride. Despite Bride's well-meaning intentions, her overbearing nature stifles Mitsy. The young girl's aspirations of becoming a hairdresser form the crux of her future dreams, while her present emotional stability is tied to a small, rejected dog named Sparky. Mitsy finds solace in Sparky, striving relentlessly to provide the dog with the warmth and security she herself has been denied. When Bride reluctantly allows Sparky to live with them, Mitsy's life takes on a hopeful turn. However, her world is once again disrupted when her estranged mother reappears in Newfoundland. Mitsy's heart is torn between joy at her mother's arrival and Bride's bitter resentment towards her wayward daughter. Amidst the turmoil of this three-generation dysfunctional family on the brink of conflict, Mitsy navigates the turbulent waters of her burgeoning sexuality. She finds herself captivated by a local delinquent working at a grim, local fast-food outlet. Crackie is a moving tale of a young girl’s journey through adversity, the pursuit of dreams, the complexity of familial relationships, and the discovery of young love, all set against the backdrop of an unforgiving environment.
