In a world where news can make or break a career, Buckley, a cunning reporter, thrives on twisting truths to his advantage. While in Paris to receive a medal for his dramatic escape from supposed kidnappers, he stumbles upon an unexpected rendezvous between his boss, Stevens of the Chicago Globe, and his former flame, Dolly. When Stevens discovers that Dolly has accompanied Buckley to Moscow, the tables turn, and Buckley finds himself jobless.
In a desperate bid to reclaim his lost stature, Buckley, with his sidekick Lefty, devises an audacious plan to fabricate a sensational news story about the assassination of the last descendant of the Romanoff dynasty.
