Plot

As the world teeters on the brink of war in 1944, we dive into the lives of three best friends – Hermie, Oscy, and Benjie – fresh from their high school graduation in Brooklyn, each embarking on their own unique journey into adulthood. Our heroes, bonded by friendship, are pulled in contrasting directions. Oscy and Hermie, who surprisingly land academic exemptions, set off for a Connecticut college, leaving behind the gritty streets of Brooklyn. Oscy, with his brash charm, had always envisioned himself in the military life, even going as far as cheating on his exam to fail, but fate has other plans. Benjie, the most innocent of the trio, shocks them all by choosing to enlist, throwing himself into the turmoil of war by joining the marines. While the world's political landscape brews an uncertain future, Hermie and Oscy's paths diverge as they navigate the murky waters of college life, complete with fraternity hazings, exam scandals, and other college trials. Hermie, the earnest one, finds himself drawn to writing for the college newspaper and caught in a whirlwind romance with the worldly and wealthy Julie. Despite the rocky beginning of their relationship, Hermie's experiences with Julie and the challenges of college life propel him towards maturity. Oscy, on the other hand, grapples with his own experiences, the two friends growing apart as they each carve out their own place in this rapidly changing world. "Class of '44" is a captivating sequel to "Summer of '42", inviting viewers into the lives of Hermie, Oscy, and Benjie as they transition from the innocence of high school to the harsh realities of adulthood. The film beautifully captures the essence of friendship, personal growth, and the unpredictability of life against the backdrop of a world at war.
