Cinderfella (1960)

In the classic tale of Cinderella turned on its head, Jerry Lewis steps into the soot-stained shoes of the downtrodden Cinderfella. After the death of his father, he finds himself under the cruel thumb of his haughty stepmother (Dame Judith Anderson), and her two contemptible sons, Maximilian (Henry Silva) and Rupert (Robert Hutton). The scheming brothers continually exploit Cinderfella as they relentlessly hunt for a rumored hidden treasure that was supposedly left by their late father on the grand estate. As the family's fortune wanes, the stepmother, in a desperate bid to revive their status, orchestrates a grand ball to woo the visiting Princess Charming (Anna Maria Alberghetti). The stepmother's hopes are pinned on a royal union between the princess and her son, Rupert. Amidst the chaotic preparations and the family's selfish ambitions, Cinderfella's Fairy Godfather (Ed Wynn) emerges, instilling in him the belief that he holds a fighting chance at winning the heart of the princess. In this delightful inversion of the age-old Cinderella story, Jerry Lewis' Cinderfella finds himself contending with treacherous family, hidden treasures, and an unlikely shot at love.
