Christmas Under the Stars (2019)

As the festive season approaches, Nick Bellwith, a high-flying investment banker from Chicago, finds his world turned upside down. The promising promotion to junior partner he had longed for is replaced by a sudden dismissal, resulting from an ill-fated investment decision that lost his biggest client and his firm substantial sums of money. Wrestling with the burden of disclosing this failure to his father Sydney, a man who cherishes financial prosperity and its opulent trappings above all else, Nick finds himself at a crossroads. Just when everything seems lost, Nick's path crosses with Clem Marshwell, the elderly proprietor of Star Top Christmas tree lot. Observing Nick's despair, Clem offers him a temporary job at his lot. Nick, who has distanced himself from the festive cheer since his mother's demise - the heart and soul of their family's Christmas traditions - reluctantly accepts the job, keeping his troubles to himself. This year carries a deep sense of melancholy for the tree lot. Regular patrons mourn the loss of Clem's beloved wife Grace and with the imminent redevelopment of the property, this Christmas might be the lot's last. Julie Gibbons, a single mother and a seventh-grade science teacher who recently lost her father, is one such customer. Julie's parents met and fell in love at this very lot, making it a place seeped in cherished memories. Julie, her adopted son Matt, and Clem form a close-knit trio, navigating their losses together. Struggling with unexpected medical bills from her father's illness, Julie is unsure if she can afford a festive celebration for Matt. As Nick becomes entwined in their lives, he begins to view life through a different lens, and his feelings for Julie start to blossom. Yet, their journey towards happiness may be marred by Nick's unforeseen connection to Julie's financial plight. In the heart of this tender and poignant Christmas tale, Nick must find his path and perhaps, discover the true meaning of the season along the way.
