William Holt, the charismatic heir to Chicago's powerful Holt Enterprises, finds his life taking an unexpected turn as his father, Jim Holt, nears retirement. Known for gliding through life on his charm, with his loyal yet unofficial assistant, Lyle, always at hand to mop up his many messes, Will is met with a new challenge. Concerned about entrusting the family business to Will, Jim seeks a lawyer to guide him through the legal quagmires that inevitably arise. Enter Annie Park, a fierce family law attorney with a personal bone to pick. When Annie storms into Holt Enterprises, Will mistakes her for a candidate for the lawyer position. However, her true intention is to confront him regarding the demolition of a beloved local diner, the Starlight, a business long owned by her adoptive parents, Gene and Pat Park. Seeing an opportunity in Annie's passion, Will proposes a deal. She will masquerade as his lawyer until Christmas, giving Jim the illusion of stability, and in return, he will halt the impending destruction of the Starlight. As part of their arrangement, Annie finds herself entangled in organizing a lavish Christmas fundraiser to help Will out of one of his legal knots, an endeavor far beyond her usual expertise. Will, too, is drawn into the fundraiser, and as they collaborate, a spark begins to ignite between them. As Annie and Will explore new facets of each other, they start to fall in love. However, their budding romance might crumble if Will fails to uphold his end of their agreement, a task that requires convincing the formidable Jim Holt.
