In the bustling heart of Shanghai, Tommy Baldwin and Joe Dugan, two intrepid Americans, find themselves entrusted with a mission of sparkling proportions: to safeguard a resplendent diamond. Their reward promises to be grand, but failure threatens to grant them an early grave. Their quest takes a perilous turn when a fierce gunfight erupts, a canister of knockout gas is unleashed, and amidst the chaos, the diamond vanishes.
In the aftermath, the authorities cast a dragnet over everyone in the vicinity, but the diamond remains elusive. Intriguingly, everyone detained and subsequently released boards the same steamship, the Asiatic, the very next day. The ship charts its course from Shanghai to San Francisco, and it's within this floating microcosm that Tommy and Joe must unravel the mystery.
The duo suspects the seven individuals from the fateful night, but as the journey unfolds, the body count begins to rise and the clues are scarce. Their mission to retrieve the diamond turns into a chilling game of whodunit, with danger lurking around every corner.
