Plot

In the hallowed halls of an elite Catholic prep school, Paul Reis, a young gym teacher with a past intertwined with the institution, finds himself drawn into a complex web of power struggles and simmering conflicts. A decade after his own graduation, he returns to the school, only to discover an environment far removed from the tranquility of his memories. Reis is thrust into the midst of an escalating feud between two seasoned educators, each representing a starkly different approach to pedagogy. There's the affable Joseph Dobbs, a beloved English teacher and advisor, known for his gregarious nature and modern teaching methods. On the other side stands Jerome Malley, a stern purveyor of classical languages with an old-world teaching style, earning him the nickname "Lash" and a reputation for being heartily despised among his charges. As Reis navigates the murky waters of faculty politics, he becomes a pawn in the power play between Dobbs, who eyes the senior class left in the wake of an ailing Malley, and Malley himself, who, despite being on the verge of personal tragedy, staunchly refuses to cede ground. The undercurrents of tension within the school staff are mirrored ominously within the student body. A series of malicious hazings and instances of ritualistic violence have begun to mar the school's esteemed reputation, leaving everyone perplexed and on edge. As the plot thickens, Reis must decipher the unsettling happenings and bring to light the shadows lurking within the school's illustrious facade. In the process, he discovers that the seemingly serene institution is not as harmless as it appears, and that the stakes are higher than he ever imagined.
