DeeDee, accompanied by her 11-year-old son, Trooper, embarks on a nostalgic journey back to her roots 13 years after eloping with her boyfriend. Her childhood confidant, Sam, now lives a content life as a town veterinarian, sharing his world with his wife, Lydia. Despite the hidden vestiges of Sam's first crush manifesting as initial wariness, Lydia's heart gradually warms up to DeeDee and her son, charmed by their endearing nature and acts of kindness. As DeeDee plants the seeds of a candle-making venture in the heart of the town, she kindles a flame of camaraderie among the town's ladies through regular candle-making soirees. Amidst the soft glow and fragrant trails, DeeDee and Lydia cultivate their friendship, the initial apprehension slowly melting away like wax. An ordinary dinner with Lydia and Sam takes a somber turn when DeeDee discloses her looming fate - her days are numbered, and she seeks Sam's aid in securing a loving home for Trooper. Sam, burdened by this revelation, confides in Lydia, and together they make a selfless decision to embrace Trooper into their lives, preparing to offer him a safe haven when the inevitable strikes.
