Bulldog Drummond's Peril (1938)

As the church bells prepare to chime for Captain Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond and his beloved Phyllis Clavering, their Swiss villa wedding is abruptly halted. A horrendous crime has occurred under their very noses: a Swiss policeman, entrusted with the protection of their wedding gifts, is murdered, and their most treasured gift, a synthetic diamond of immense value, is stolen. This precious gem, fabricated by the ingenious Professor Bernard Goodman, father to their dear friend Gwen Longworth, is the result of a secret process that threatens the monopoly of the Metropolitan Diamond Syndicate, headed by guest Sir Raymond Blantyre. With the sudden disappearance of Sir Raymond coinciding with the theft, Drummond's suspicions are ignited. Unwilling to let the crime go unchallenged, he departs from Phyllis and rushes back to England, despite the skepticism of Colonel Nielsen of Scotland Yard, who holds Sir Raymond in high regard. However, the Colonel, erring on the side of caution, decides to tail Drummond, should his hunch prove accurate. Tragedy strikes when an explosion destroys Goodman's house, seemingly taking the professor's life with it. Convinced more than ever of Blantyre's villainy, Drummond pursues Professor Botulian, Goodman's lifetime competitor, whom he believes to be an accomplice. His pursuit leads him to a secluded house on the fringes of London, where a shocking discovery awaits him. Inside, he finds Goodman held captive, and a surprise reunion occurs as Tenny, Drummond's loyal valet, and Phyllis, also held hostage, join them. They stand, outnumbered and cornered, against Blantyre and his armed henchmen. As the tension escalates, Drummond, driven by justice and love, prepares to face the overwhelming odds against him.
