Plot

In the barren landscape of Oklahoma, Agnes, a solitary waitress burdened with a past steeped in sorrow, seeks refuge in a seedy, dilapidated motel. Her life is a labyrinth of loss, haunted by the vanishing of her adored son Lloyd a decade earlier, and the specter of her abusive ex-husband, Jerry Goss, recently sprung from the confines of state prison. Her tenuous existence is punctuated by persistent, ominous calls from Goss, and the companionship of her only ally, the outspoken lesbian RC. Unexpectedly, RC ushers into Agnes's life a peculiar stranger, the transient Peter Evans. A drifter with a haunted look in his eyes and a cloud of paranoia hanging over him, he sparks an unpredictable romance with Agnes. Their affair soon becomes a dive into the depths of the bizarre, as Peter reveals his past as a Gulf War soldier subjected to clandestine experiments. He insists that he is now plagued by an infestation of bugs, an unsettling claim that soon engulfs Agnes as well. As their motel room becomes the stage for a chilling descent into madness, Agnes and Peter grapple with their shared terror. Are the bugs real, or the dystopian hallucinations of two fractured minds? As the boundaries of reality and paranoia blur, Agnes finds herself trapped in a claustrophobic nightmare. In the face of unseen horrors and the echoes of conspiracy theories, the couple must navigate this terrifying reality, one where the arrival of the bugs signifies the onset of their unraveling sanity.
