Plot

Beneath the bright lights of Broadway and the shadowy corners of the Lonely Hearts Club, Sailor Ted finds love in Nora Paige, a girl with dreams of dancing stardom. The rhythm of their romance is disrupted when Ted, in the midst of a public relations stunt on his submarine, becomes the unlikely hero for Lucy James, a renowned Broadway diva, by rescuing her precious Pekinese. Caught in the spotlight of Lucy's affections and the stern orders of his Captain, Ted is drawn into the glittering world of night clubs and Broadway, leaving Nora, who shares a home with Gunny's family, feeling forgotten. A revealing photograph of Lucy and Ted in the morning paper seems to cement Nora's fears. However, Lucy, weary of the relentless press campaign, calls for a halt, threatening to abandon her lead role if her association with Ted continues to make headlines. As Nora steps into the role of understudy, she reconsiders her feelings for Ted. But the harsh glare of show business proves unforgiving when Dinehart, Lucy's manager, fires Nora for attempting a dance number deemed impossible by Lucy herself. Unraveling the tangled threads of love, ambition, and misunderstanding, Ted is left to find a way to repair the rifts and set things right, all under the watchful eyes of Broadway.
