Former Moscow detective Andrei "Andy" Somov, disillusioned with his homeland, severs his ties with Russia to start anew. His dreams of a fresh start in America are tarnished as he is relegated to a lowly restaurant job, while his young son and expectant daughter-in-law remain trapped in Russia, their exit visas denied. In a twist of fate, Andy's vast knowledge and linguistic abilities attract the attention of the LAPD, leading him on an unexpected journey to Tijuana in search of affordable tiles. This seemingly mundane quest takes a thrilling turn when he crosses paths with Larry, a fellow Russian expatriate and a seasoned coyote, who has devoted his life to assisting illegal families cross the border into America.
