Plot

Body Without Soul (1996) presents a chilling, yet poignant, exploration of the lives of young male prostitutes in the shadowy corners of Prague. Aged between 15 and 18, these boys navigate the murky waters of a world where the public swimming pool, train station, video arcade, and discotheque transform into their hunting grounds. Through intimate conversations, they reveal their entry into this dangerous game, each story as heart-wrenching as the next. The viewer is then led into the den of Pavel Rousek, a man who, under the pseudonym Hans Miller, produces gay adult films primarily for the German market. His home is a stark contrast to the glitz and glamor of the movie shoot, presenting a raw, unfiltered view into their lives. The plot is cleverly interspersed with an interview where Rousek, in his day job at a morgue, chillingly performs an autopsy while discussing his work. The boys operate in a world without safety nets - no family, no protection. Open dialogues about their bodies and souls, money, their sexual preferences, the looming threat of AIDS, their dreams, and the specter of death, offer a sobering insight into their reality. Body Without Soul (1996) is a hauntingly beautiful dive into a world that exists on the fringes of society, a world where dreams are bittersweet and life is a high-stakes gamble.
