Plot

Meet Anna, a vivacious nine-year-old whose life was once filled with laughter and the simple pleasures of childhood. Her days were colored with the tantalizing aroma of Cuban dishes prepared by her nanny, the warm glow of pre-dinner baths and enlightening catechism classes at her Catholic school. But the arrival of her Aunt Marga and Cousin Pilar upturned her world, transforming her life into an unrecognizable kaleidoscope of new words and ideas. Suddenly, her universe is filled with names like "Franco", "Allende", "Women's Lib", and "abortion", words that are as foreign to her as the stars in the sky. Her parents, once her pillars of stability, have now become "communists", a term that sends shivers of disapproval down the spines of her Bordeaux-based grandparents. The grandeur of her childhood home is replaced by a cramped apartment teeming with "barbudos" - bearded men - who invade her space at all hours. Gone are her comforting routines of baths and catechism classes, leaving Anna to navigate through this new reality. Can her innocence withstand the tides of such a scandal? "Blame it on Fidel!" is a poignant exploration of a young girl's journey through the tumultuous landscape of political upheaval and familial changes.
