Plot

In the heart of Brussels, Carlos Fuster, a Spanish CEO, luxuriates in his upper-class lifestyle. Working for a major American oil company and living with his pregnant wife, Susan, and his diplomat mother, Elena, Carlos dreams of making partner and relocating to New York for a life of even grander opulence. However, his aspirations take a harrowing turn when he is selected to negotiate in a distant African island nation, a land that harbors his past secrets. Carlos is tasked with the mission of negotiating the release of Steve Campbell, an abducted American engineer, from the clutches of Calixto Batete, Carlos's old friend turned adversary. On his arrival, he is greeted by the familiar faces of Alejandra, a Spanish NGO worker, and León, the son of the country's president. Yet, the reunion is far from joyous as Carlos uncovers a labyrinth of deceit and treachery. Unraveling the complicated threads of his past, Carlos discovers that his former lover, Ada, who he believed had aborted their child, married Calixto and bore him a son. Ada is now languishing in the notorious Black Beach prison. As he delves further into the mystery, he learns that Calixto and Campbell had unearthed clandestine files implicating the oil company and President Ndong in a genocide conspiracy against the local Zande tribe. Carlos's pursuit of truth puts him in the crosshairs of General Mba, the ruthless warden of Black Beach, who believes Carlos can lead him to the elusive files. As Carlos races against time, he faces a grim reality check. His quest for justice leads to a tragic showdown where he witnesses Calixto's execution and the massacre of innocent residents, including Ada's mother Claudina, who had safeguarded the incriminating files. In a heart-pounding escape, Carlos, with the help of Alejandra, barely manages to evade death, but Alejandra pays the ultimate price. Despite the loss and chaos, Carlos reunites with his son and secures a chance to return to Brussels with Susan. However, his journey into the dark underbelly of corporate greed and corruption leaves him grappling with a bitter truth, that some realities are far dirtier than any remote African island nation.
