Plot

In the sweltering summer of 1976, Europe finds itself gripped by an unrelenting heatwave and one of the history's most severe droughts. Amid this parched landscape, we find 13-year-old Gus immersing himself in the vibrant world of comic books, his sanctuary on his parents' farm. While he lends a hand to his father, who has staked his life's savings on a modernized chicken coop, Gus also finds solace in the company of Mado, the village's untamed sprite. However, as the sun blazes mercilessly, the comforting sphere of Gus's life starts to fissure. His mother, a soft and nurturing figure, suddenly appears distant, drawn towards the enigmatic allure of Cécile. His father, meanwhile, is left alone to grapple with the drought's devastation. Caught in the eye of this emotional storm, Gus confronts the disintegration of his once-idyllic family life, the crumble of traditional farming, and the collapse of patriarchal norms. As the innocence of his childhood evaporates under the scorched summer sun, Gus is compelled to mature swiftly, stepping bravely into the unfamiliar territory beyond the horizon.
