Plot

"Like Father, Like Son" is a poignant exploration of the intricate bond between parents and children. The film, directed by the globally acclaimed Kore-eda Hirokazu, sends a ripple through the seemingly perfect life of Ryota, a man who has crafted his success through relentless hard work and determination. Ryota's life, however, takes an abrupt turn when an unexpected phone call from the hospital reveals a shocking truth. His 6-year-old son, Keita, the child he's raised, loved, and cherished, isn't biologically his. A mix-up at the hospital at the time of birth has switched his son with another. Ryota stands on the precipice of a life-altering decision. Should he choose his biological son or the boy who, for six years, he has nurtured as his own? This successful workaholic finds himself questioning the very essence of fatherhood, torn between 'nature' and 'nurture.' The scenario is further complicated as he observes his wife, Midori's unwavering love for Keita, even after the revelation. As he connects with the surprisingly warm family that has been raising his biological son, Ryota begins to introspect. "Like Father, Like Son" is an emotional journey that challenges the concept of blood relationships, prompting Ryota to delve deep into the depths of his heart. The film unravels the complexity of familial bonds, bringing to the fore the question of what it truly means to be a 'father.' It's a heart-rending narrative that delicately balances the struggle of acceptance, love, and the true essence of family.
