Plot

Daphne Wilder is a fiercely loving, single mother nearing her sixties, whose life revolves around her three distinct daughters: Maggie, a grounded psychologist; Mae, a vibrant free spirit; and Milly, a sweet and insecure soul who mirrors a moth drawn to the wrong flames of love. Having walked the aisle twice as a mother of the bride for her elder daughters, Daphne fears that a wedding for Milly might remain an elusive dream due to her unfortunate string of disappointing suitors. Determined to save Milly from a lonely fate akin to her own, Daphne takes a bold step, unbeknownst to her daughters. She dives into the world of online personal ads, placing a covert call for the perfect mate for Milly, in a desperate attempt to steer her youngest away from the treacherous path of heartbreak. In a whirlwind of comic chaos, Daphne conducts a carousel of interviews at a local restaurant, sifting through a motley crew of seventeen hopefuls. Each one, a seeming disappointment, until the suave architect, Jason, steps into the picture. He is handsome, successful, and seemingly the perfect antidote to Milly's love woes. However, the universe has a twist in store as Johnny, an unnoticed observer and musician at the restaurant, expresses interest in meeting Milly. Daphne, haunted by her past with her musician ex-husband, dismisses Johnny's candidature. Unaware of her mother's secret mission, Milly stumbles into relationships with both Jason and Johnny, resulting in a complex love triangle. The plot thickens as Daphne, upon discovering Johnny's presence, starts fervently advocating for Jason, completely unaware of the brewing storm when Milly inevitably uncovers the truth about the ad. The ensuing drama not only tests the resilience of the mother-daughter bond but also brings to light the complexities, truths, and paradoxes of motherly love. Meanwhile, amidst the romantic conundrums, Daphne, inspired by old Gary Cooper movies, embarks on a surprising journey of rediscovering her own dormant romantic side. The question remains: will Daphne's well-intended, if misguided, intervention help or hinder Milly's pursuit of love? And will Daphne find love in the most unexpected of places? "Because I Said So" is a heartwarming exploration of love, family, and the power of mother-daughter relationships, wrapped in a package of humor and poignant self-discovery.
