And Then There Were None (1945)

In the heart of an impenetrable silence, a motley crew of ten strangers are lured to an isolated island by the enigmatic Owens, a pair of hosts who remain mysteriously delayed. Among them are the stern Judge Quincannon, astute Dr. Armstrong, enigmatic Philip Lombard, dogged detective Blore, newly appointed secretary Vera Claythorne, enigmatic Prince Starloff, venerated General Mandrake, and the austere Emily Brent. Greeted by the domestic duo, the unflappable butler Thomas Rogers and his dutiful wife Ethel, the guests settle into an uneasy camaraderie, each harboring their own secrets. As the velvet veil of night descends, the tension escalates when a haunting phonograph message pierces the quietude, accusing them all of murder. This chilling revelation is followed by the discovery of a centerpiece adorned with ten miniature Indian figures, eerily reflecting a nursery rhyme recited by Vera about ten little Indians meeting their untimely demise. As the guests grapple with their accused crimes, they are picked off one by one in a chilling sequence of events, each death mirrored by the destruction of an Indian figurine. The island, once a haven, transforms into a malevolent labyrinth where every corner whispers of danger. Accusations fly and alliances crumble as the remaining survivors realize the killer lurks among them, shifting the atmosphere from suspicion to dread. In the harrowing dance of survival, the identity of the murderer remains elusive. The prime suspect is invariably the next victim, leaving only a pair of survivors in a chilling endgame. The question relentlessly pursues them: Are they truly guilty of their accused crimes? And who is the phantom executioner turning this island sanctuary into a macabre stage of justice?
