American Pets (2018)

Perched atop the hills, amidst the lingering glimmers of Hollywood's bygone era, dwell 24-year-old Tod and his younger sister Lani, 22, in their grandmother Judy's expansive manor. Judy, once a luminary of the silver screen, now hosts a dwindling home-shopping show. Tod's hedonistic, self-centered life veers into a chilling abyss when he unintentionally, or perhaps not, shoots Judy dead. Faced with the threat of losing his lavish life, Tod devises a sinister plot to keep his grandmother's death a secret, her show on air, and the cash pouring in. He beguiles Judy's associate, Barb, and persuades her to allow Lani to fill Judy's shoes on the show. The scheme succeeds, boosting the show's ratings. Tod then sets his sights on Jacob, the manor's 25-year-old handyman who's romantically entangled with Lani. Jacob is the missing piece in Tod's malevolent masterpiece. Dodging a series of near misses, Tod outsmarts everyone, even the Los Angeles Police Department. With Lani once again ensnared in his web and content in their shared secret, we trail them as they journey into the Californian sunset, their conspiracy echoing in the wind.
