Plot

In the midst of the Great Depression, Tom Dickson, the stalwart President of Union National Bank, finds himself at odds with his own Board of Directors. For a quarter-century, Dickson has steered the bank with an unwavering dedication to his employees, clients, and the belief that circulating money is the balm for the country's economic woes. This liberal stance on loan approvals, however, is seen as reckless and dangerous by the board, who would stop at nothing to see him ousted. The tension reaches a fever pitch when the bank is robbed of a staggering $200,000 - a crime that could spell ruin for the institution. The prime suspect is Matt Brown, an ex-convict turned loyal employee, handpicked by Dickson himself as the Chief Teller. Despite the mounting evidence against him, Brown remains silent, his loyalty to Dickson unyielding. His alibi, a romantic tryst involving Dickson's neglected wife, Phyllis, and Cyril Cluett - the head cashier burdened with a $50,000 gambling debt - remains a secret, further shrouding the crime in mystery. As the bank teeters on the brink of collapse, Dickson must navigate the murky waters of suspicion, betrayal, and corporate politics to save his bank, while simultaneously grappling with revelations about his personal life. Will Dickson manage to salvage the bank from the brink of disaster? And will Matt Brown's unwavering loyalty be his salvation or his undoing? The stakes couldn't be higher in this gripping tale of power, loyalty, and deceit set against the bleak backdrop of 1930s America.
