Paralleling Gerstein's journey is Ricardo Fontana, a young, idealistic Jesuit priest. A composite character embodying the spirit of numerous real-life priests, Fontana braves the harsh reality of savagery to challenge the silence of his church's hierarchy. Hailing from an influential Italian family, he selflessly becomes Gerstein's connection to the Vatican's leadership. In the face of adversity, both men risk their lives and the safety of their families in a desperate bid to expose the unspeakable atrocities committed by the Nazis.
