Plot

In the remote stretches of northern Manitoba, a riveting tale of faith, estrangement, and reconciliation unravels. Young Ivan, a skilled practitioner of hybrid falconry, captures the interest of Jannia Ressmore, a determined documentarian. Their interaction takes an abrupt turn when the conversation veers towards Nana, Ivan's estranged mother and a figure cloaked in infamy and mystery. Two decades ago, Nana was a desperate mother seeking a miracle for Gully, Ivan's younger brother diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Despite her skepticism, she sought out the elusive "Architect", a faith healer known for his enigmatic healing structures and unpredictable selection process. This fateful decision would leave a lasting impact on Ivan, casting a long shadow over his existence. Fast forward to the present, where Nana has transformed into a renowned artist and healer, and Ivan has made a name for himself as a peculiar yet passionate falconer. Yet despite their accomplishments, they are both marked by the absence of each other and haunted by their shared past. Jannia, intrigued by their story, seeks to pull the threads of their lives back together. Now, she plans to interview the elusive Nana as part of her documentary, igniting Ivan's curiosity and leading him on a journey to the far north, leaving behind a wife and newborn child. As he steps out of his comfort zone, he discovers Jannia's hidden agenda, which promises to steer their journey in an unexpected direction. Aloft is a poignant exploration of life, art, and the relentless pursuit of healing. It invites us to ponder the uncertainties that litter our paths and the possibility of embracing life in all its fullness, despite the obstacles we face.
