Plot

In the heart of Italy, the cunning and charismatic Aldo Vanucci, alias the Fox (played by Peter Sellers), reigns as the world's supreme criminal and master of disguise. He's currently indulging in an enforced vacation within the confines of Italy's most formidable prison, from where he manages to send home amusing care packages with each unsuspecting visitor. Meanwhile, his naive sister is on the brink of adolescence and his bumbling henchmen are out of their depth trying to look after her. Driven by concern for his sister and his insatiable thirst for thrill, the Fox engineers a daring escape, leaving the authorities floundering in his ingenious wake. He soon finds himself entrusted with the audacious task of smuggling the "gold of Cairo", a significant shipment of gold, into Italy. Donning the disguise of a celebrated film director, Vanucci orchestrates an elaborate ruse. He selects a quaint coastal village as the set for his phantom movie, charming the entire population, including the comically inept local police chief, into roles in his grand production. They remain blissfully unaware that they're aiding the Fox in his grandest heist yet, not making a movie, but moving mountains of gold. As the plot thickens, Vanucci recruits an aging star, Victor Mature, to lend credibility to his faux film company, always staying a step ahead of the law. Amidst the chaos, his little sister, in her own charmingly naive way, manages to keep pace with his audacious exploits. The tale of 'After the Fox' unravels as a comedic ballet of deception and misunderstanding, where the line between movie-making and crime blurring until it disappears entirely.
