Plot

In the tranquil solitude of her mother's garden shed, Anna, a woman teetering on the precipice of her 30s, finds herself marooned in a sea of grief, anchored by the devastating loss of her twin brother. She's fashioned a world of her own, where her thumbs become actors in whimsical videos, playfully debating the philosophical inclinations of cartoon characters like Yogi Bear. As her birthday nears, her mother delivers a jolting ultimatum, urging her to vacate the haven of her shed and engage with the world outside her wooden cocoon. Anna's self-imposed isolation is disrupted when a school friend unexpectedly drops by, and she finds herself drawn into the chaotic world of an emotionally distressed eight-year-old boy. His obsession with Westerns mirrors Anna's own escapism, striking a chord that begins to pull her from her grief-stricken stupor. Meanwhile, the town's estate agent, a man of well-meaning intentions yet clumsy social skills, casts his affections towards Anna, further complicating her world. As Anna navigates the labyrinth of loss, she draws upon her grandmother's wisdom and her friend Brendan's unyielding infatuation. Her journey becomes one of redemption, as she learns to untangle her grief and relearn the art of living. Adult Life Skills paints a poignant, heartfelt portrait of a woman grappling with loss, while simultaneously exploring the absurdity and beauty of life's unexpected turns.
