Plot

In the wake of her mother Karen's (Melissa Leo) third marriage, 17-year-old Greta (Hillary Duff) finds herself spiralling into a vortex of rebellion and despair, a dark echo of the tragedy of her father's suicide that she had to witness. Rather than the harsh confines of boot camp, she is dispatched to the care of her maternal grandparents, Katherine (Ellen Burstyn) and Joseph (Michael Murphy). Here, her unsettling determination to end her own life becomes apparent, casting a foreboding shadow over the household. A sliver of distraction appears in the form of Julie (Evan Ross), a local restaurant cook, igniting a spark in Greta's heart. However, this budding romance brings its own turmoil, particularly when her grandparents discover Julie's past stint in a juvenile correctional facility. Amidst mounting tensions and dissatisfaction with her existence, Greta conceives a chilling plan for her suicide during a boating excursion. This fatal strategy, however, threatens to unearth buried secrets and alter the course of their lives irrevocably. The impending storm of revelations and transformations, triggered by Greta's desperate decision, promises a journey that will leave no one untouched, reshaping their reality forever.
