A Twist of Sand (1968)

Once a revered British Naval Officer, our protagonist now plies his trade as a crafty smuggler in the treacherous waters of the Mediterranean. The stakes become perilous when, narrowly evading the clutches of Maltese authorities, he's forced to abandon his valuable cargo. Hungry to recover his losses, he finds an unexpected opportunity in the tale of a former comrade. The story? A daring scheme to smuggle diamonds from the harsh terrains of South West Africa. Seeing this as his golden ticket, he assembles an unlikely crew: the wife of a diamond prospector and a motley crew of dubious characters. Their mission? To navigate the deadly Skeleton Coast, a nautical nightmare where few seafarers have lived to tell the tale, and retrieve the precious diamonds. However, trust is a rare commodity among this band of misfits, each harboring their own secrets and agendas. To further thicken the plot, our protagonist is haunted by a dark past linked to this very coast, stemming from a wartime mission he would rather forget. As they venture into dangerous waters, the line between friend and foe blurs, intensifying the perils of their quest.
