Plot

In the musical symphony of life that is "A Song is Born," we meet the introverted and endearingly shy Professor Hobart Frisbee, played by Danny Kaye. He presides over a musical research institute, where he and a band of eccentric music professors, including the charming Professor Magenbruch (Benny Goodman), are diligently composing a musical encyclopedia. Their cloistered world of classical tunes is infiltrated by the vibrant rhythms of jazz, swing, boogie woogie, and bebop, introduced by the unlikeliest of sources - Buck and Bubbles, two humble window washers. As the professors embark on their musical exploration, a melodious twist lands on their doorstep in the form of Honey Swanson, a vivacious night club singer portrayed by Virginia Mayo. Honey is also the girlfriend of notorious gangster, Tony Crow (Steve Cochran), who is currently under the watchful eye of the law. Seeking refuge, Honey infiltrates the institute, presenting an irresistible allure amidst the lonely bachelors. Honey's chaotic presence stirs the institute, leading the housekeeper to demand her departure. However, Honey outmaneuvers this by charming the lovable Professor Frisbee, who, to her surprise, proposes marriage. This unexpected turn of events incites a sinister plan from her gangster boyfriend, who seizes the opportunity to use their engagement as a cover. He insists on an immediate wedding in New Jersey, intending to wed Honey himself and consequently, prevent her from testifying against him. However, the rhythm of love is a tricky beat to master. As Honey is whirled away to New Jersey by the unsuspecting Frisbee, she finds herself falling in love with him, putting her in a precarious position. Will she choose the safety of her past or the melody of a new beginning? "A Song is Born" is a harmonious blend of romance, comedy, and music that will have you tapping your feet to its unpredictable rhythm.
